Title:On Intelligent Autonomous Robotics


Abstract:This lecture delves into the journey of AI and robotics research from its inception to the present day, highlighting key developments and methodologies that have shaped the landscape of autonomous robotics. By highlighting key technologies, industry applications, and ground-breaking projects in intelligent control and AI-driven robotics, we demonstrate our tangible and impactful works including physics driven adaptive neural network control, Barrier Lyapunov Function based control, optimized backstepping, and safe BLF-based reinforcement learning, and illustrate the depth of research and efforts required to advance autonomous robotics. We aim to work together with the forever young and energetic researchers to pursue excellence and innovation in this dynamic and impactful field of a future where AI and robotics seamlessly fused to address complex challenges for better humanity.


Biography:Shuzhi Sam Ge is a Professor with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, The National University of Singapore, Singapore, and Founding Honorary Director of Institute for Future (IFF), Qingdao University, China. He received the Ph.D. degree from the Imperial College London, London, U.K., in 1993, and the B.Sc. degree from the Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, China, in 1986.

He Serves as President, 2024-2026, Asian Control Association, Member of IEEE CSS Award Committee 2024-2025, IFAC executive officers as a Council Member, 2023-2026. He serves as a Senior Editor of IEEE SMC- Systems and has served/been serving as an Associate Editor for a number of flagship journals including IEEE TAC, Automatica, IEEE TCST, IEEE TNN, and CAAI Transactions on Intelligence Technology. At IEEE Control Systems Society, he served as Vice President for Technical Activities, 2009-2010, Vice President of Membership Activities, 2011-2012. He is Top 1% Highly Cited Researchers by Clarivate Analytics, 2016-2024. He is a Fellow of SAEng, IEEE, IFAC, IET, and CAA, and ACA. He is also a recipient of many awards and recognitions at national level from Singapore, China, and at international levels from leading scientific bodies. His current research interests include robotics, intelligent systems, artificial intelligence, and smart materials.
